Longitudinal & exploratory studies are warranted in the future to identify causal factors for PUI and PUF and appropriate interventions should be designed quickly for this population.Ĭontemporary communication technology has permeated into the social fabric and has transformed the ways people interact, consume, and exchange information. Both PUI and PUF have been prevalent among Bangladeshi university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. PUF was significantly associated with village residence, lower income, arts majors, failure in romantic relationships, longer use of the Internet, using the Internet for purposes other than education, and downloading movies/TV series. The multiple linear regression model indicated PUI was significantly associated with participants residing in a village, arts majors, those unsatisfied with their major, having mediocre parental relationships, failure in romantic relationships, physical comorbidities, longer use of the Internet, using the Internet for purposes other than education, using social media, and downloading movies/TV series. Among the participants, PUI and PUF were found in 39.3% and 37.1%, respectively. A multiple linear regression analysis was performed to adjust for confounders. ![]() The Internet Addiction Test and Facebook Addiction Scale were used to assess PIU and PUF, respectively. A cross-sectional online survey was undertaken among 1101 Bangladeshi university students between November and December 2020. This study estimated the prevalence of and explored associated factors for PUI and PUF among Bangladeshi university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Problematic use of Internet (PUI) and problematic use of Facebook (PUF) has been linked to escalating behavioral health issues among university students and has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, reducing social media use may help couples deal with romantic relationship dissatisfaction, thereby mitigating their depression, anxiety, and stress. Moreover, utilizing the bootstrapping procedure the study found significant associations between SMA and RS via psychological distress. The results also indicated that depression, anxiety, and stress partially mediated the impact of SMA on RS. According to the results, there were significant correlations between all variables. Lastly, we examined whether SNSs addiction is connected to the total number of SNSs accounts. We further examined whether SNSs addiction is linked to romantic relationship commitment. We explored the connection between participants’ age and SNSs addiction and also their age with the total number of SNSs accounts. ![]() In the current study, we examined 252 married and romantically committed partners (167 females, 85 males) between the ages of 18 to 73 years (M = 28.27, SD = 12.02). SNSs use is also linked to low relationship commitment due to the presence of online alternative attractions and also due to the time and emotional investments that are made outside the dyadic relationship. Research supports that an excessive SNSs use adversely affects romantic relationships due to jealousy, envy, suspicion, surveillance, and infidelity. SNSs offer a new way of communicating with known and unknown connections under the umbrella of “friends.” Online communications can quickly become aggressive as uninhibited users tend to exchange intimate details and are prone to developing an emotional intimacy with their online friends. Many competing social networking websites (SNSs) have gained popularity among Internet users.
